Acumed - About Us
Our Mission
To aid the afflicted through the ingenuity of our minds, the labor of our hands and the compassion of our hearts.
Our Story
Acumed is a leader in developing innovative orthopaedic and medical solutions to improve patient care around the world.
Acumed began as a family business in 1988 and has evolved to become a market leader in advanced solutions for complicated issues facing orthopaedic surgeons and their patients today. True to our founding vision, Acumed is committed to benefitting doctors and patients alike by putting the future of orthopaedics into surgeons’ hands. We take pride in our work and are dedicated to providing cutting-edge solutions, exceptional products and services that meet our quality objectives and exceed customer expectations.
In 1988, Mary and Randy Huebner had a vision of creating innovative trauma products to improve patient care. The couple founded Accurate Machine and Design (Acumed) in an 1100-square-foot space in Butler, New Jersey, with a single machinist as their first employee. Starting out engineering prototypes for companies like Howmedica, Kirschner and Exactech, Acumed also designed test machines and created prototypes of hip stems, acetabular cups, and knee implants. After relocating to Oregon, the Oregon Fixation Screw, our first line of arthroscopy screws launched in 1991 intended for repair of ACL ligaments in the knee. From there the success of our arthroscopy screws allowed Acumed to expand from the arthroscopy market into trauma. Acumed has continued to research, design, and manufacture the majority of our products, while adding new product lines each year, including Acutrak 2 Screws, Acu-Loc 2, Clavicle Plating System and the Elbow Plating System.
In 1999, The Marmon Group, previously Colson Corporation, purchased Acumed. This brought in investments to purchase equipment and a new building for additional onsite design and manufacturing. In 2002, after five decades of being the CEO of The Marmon Group, Robert Pritzker stepped down and created Colson Associates. This move allowed more time and attention to be focused on Colson businesses, including Acumed.
Now headquartered in Hillsboro, Oregon, Acumed is a multi-award-winning company that is dedicated to innovative and quality medical device solutions. Committed to the highest standards of manufacturing, Acumed is proud to produce over 90% of our implants in the U.S.A.
Throughout our history, Acumed has focused on our founders’ vision to address the challenges facing orthopaedic surgeons and their patients. Our strategy to carry on this vision successfully is to know the indication, design a solution, and deliver quality products.
Acumed is headquartered in Hillsboro, Oregon, with a global distribution network and offices worldwide.
