Course Overview
This one-day course will feature in depth case discussions and cadaveric lab time for Acumed’s hand and wrist portfolio. Our expert faculty will guide attendees through diagnosis, planning, and execution of cases in both lecture and labs settings, while also sharing their knowledge of developing their practices after Fellowship and any challenges that are faced during that transition.

Chair
- Joseph Styron (Cleveland Clinic) – Dr. Styron currently practices at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. After completing his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Dr. Styron pursued two fellowships in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and Congenital & Pediatric Hand Surgery at Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia. His specialty interests include surgery of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder, and has specialized training in nerve and tendon transfers in infants and children.
Faculty
- Roy Cardoso MD, FACS (Baptist Health) – Dr. Cardoso is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity conditions at Baptist Health Orthopedic Care. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of California, Davis, followed by a hand and upper extremity fellowship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. His clinical interests include surgery of the hand, wrist, and elbow, with expertise in complex fractures, elbow arthroscopy, and upper extremity reconstruction, including sports‑related injuries. He serves as a clinical assistant professor at Florida International University, where he teaches across hand surgery and sports medicine training programs. Dr. Cardoso lectures nationally and internationally, contributes to clinical and basic science research, and remains committed to global medical outreach.
- Luke Nicholson, MD (USC) – Dr. Nicholson is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and Fellowship Director of the Joseph H. Boyes Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Fellowship. His clinical and research interests include complex trauma of the upper extremity including wrist and elbow fractures, post-traumatic deformity correction, and composite tissue reconstruction.
- Tyler S. Pidgeon, MD (Durham, NC) – Dr. Pidgeon is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist, elbow, and microvascular surgery at Duke Health. He earned his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency and orthopedic trauma fellowship at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital, followed by a fellowship in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at Duke University Hospital. His clinical interests include tendon and nerve injuries, hand and wrist fractures, elbow fractures, cubital and carpal tunnel syndromes, thumb arthritis, biceps and triceps tears, and Tommy John surgery.
