A first tarsometatarsal joint arthrodesis (lapidus)” is a surgical procedure where the joint between the first metatarsal bone and the medial cuneiform bone in the foot is fused together, essentially eliminating movement at that joint; it’s commonly used to treat severe bunions (hallux valgus) and is often referred to simply as a “Lapidus procedure”.
