subtalar joint arthrodesis (also called “Talocalcaneal Arthrodesis”) is a surgical procedure where the subtalar joint in the foot is surgically fused together, essentially eliminating movement in that joint to relieve pain caused by conditions like arthritis, often resulting from injuries or deformities in the hindfoot; it’s essentially a “joint fusion” surgery in the area where the ankle bone (talus) meets the heel bone (calcaneus).
