Incision and Exposure: A dorsal incision is made from the distal third of the metatarsal shaft to a point midway along the shaft of the proximal phalanx. Expose the extensor tendon and retract medially or laterally. The incision is deepened to expose the capsule of the metatarsophalangeal joint.
