Acu-Loc Wrist Spanning Plate

Product Overview

The Acu-Loc Wrist Spanning Plate is designed to address complex distal radius fractures. This temporary fixator is designed to hold the wrist in distraction and to provide ligamentotaxis to the wrist on a temporary basis while the distal radius heals.

Similar to an external fixation device, the Acu-Loc Wrist Spanning Plate may be used if the distal radius is too comminuted for an Acu-Loc 2 or other distal radius plate.

The advantage of this plate is its simplicity using the concept of ligamentotaxis to apply circumferential pressure created by distracting the affected area to push fragments back in place.

Key Features

  • Temporary Internal Fixation for Comminuted Fractures

This temporary fixation device is designed to hold the wrist in distraction and to provide ligamentotaxis while the distal radius heals.

  • Plate Placement

Plates are designed to be placed over the second or third metacarpal.

  • Additional Fixation and Distraction

An optional distal radius screw cluster provides additional fixation, while a proximal slot allows additional distraction.

  • Precontoured Plate

The plate is precontoured with a dorsal bend of six degrees.

Improved Ease of Insertion and Removal

An improved cutting-flute design makes implant placement and removal quicker and easier. This may lead to reduced procedure times and minimal surgical trauma.2

Increased Strength

Due to material and manufacturing process improvements, CoCr screws can withstand greater rotational torque without breaking or stripping compared to Ti screws, which may be beneficial for patients with dense bone.1

Biological Compatibility

Extensive testing has shown our CoCr screws to be biologically safe to use with Ti plates with no appreciable galvanic corrosion occurring between the two materials.1
